He was taken from the West End show by his husband David Furnish.

Elton recently revealed that he is blind in his right eye after losing his sight due to an infection.

However, the 77-year-old admitted tonight that his eyesight had deteriorated, which prevented him from seeing the performance.

Elton opened up about his condition during a speech at the star-studded charity gala tonight.

The music legend told celebs attending the musical: “As some of you may know, I’ve had issues and now I’ve lost my sight.

“I didn’t get to see the show, but I enjoyed it.”

He went on to pay tribute to his supportive husband, saying: “To my husband who was my rock because I couldn’t make it to many previews…

“It’s hard for me to see it, but I love hearing it and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming!”

The 77-year-old picked up an infection over the summer and now admits he is struggling to be productive.

In an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, he said: “Unfortunately I lost the sight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France.”

The superstar added: “It’s been four months since I couldn’t see. My left eye is not the best.

“It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just need to get off my ass.”

Speaking on the US breakfast show to promote his latest documentary, Elton John: Its Never Too Late, the superstar singer said losing his sight had thrown him off the rails.

“Somehow it hit me and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” he added.

“There is hope and encouragement that everything will be fine. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment, I go to the studio and record, I don’t know. Because I can’t see the text to begin with.”

The Devil Wears Prada plays at the Dominion Theater and features music by music legend Elton John.

It is based on the blockbuster film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway and the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger.

A whole host of celebrities turned up at the charity gala in their suits to support Elton’s new venture.

Lily Collins, best known for her role in Emily in Paris, turned heads on the red carpet wearing a chic gold sequin dress.

Vanessa Williams, who plays the sassy Miranda Priestly in the new musical, appeared in a silky red blouse paired with a black leather skirt and red heels.

Also spotted at the glitzy event were Scottish singer Lulu, who embraced the fashion theme in a tailored black one-piece, and BAFTA-winning TV presenter Graham Norton, who arrived in a tailored black suit.
