The move will earn Ratcliffe £237m – and he has already hinted big changes are coming in a message to fans.

This increase in money, however, will be spent on infrastructure and will not affect the transfer budget.

To maximize player recruitment funds in line with Financial Fair Play guidelines, Ratcliffe is set to undertake a rationalization exercise – starting with staff members.

United is thought to employ around 1,000 people behind the scenes.

According to The Guardian, Ratcliffe will send an external auditor to Carrington next month to assess the club’s “structure and costs”.

It is thought that as many as 300 jobs could subsequently be at risk, with senior managers told that “cost discipline” is important.

As part of the evaluation phase, Ratcliffe will send two of his most trusted assistants to monitor events at the club next month.

Ineos sporting director Dave Brailsford and chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc will travel to Carrington with the task of assessing football operations.

According to the Mail, Brailsford and Blanc will put every football department under scrutiny.

They claim that data analysis, recovery, psychology and injury prevention are among the departments that will be closely watched.

It was also emphasized that Ratcliffe does not want to “rush” any decisions.

United have had a poor season so far, sitting eighth in the Premier League and being eliminated early from the Carabao Cup and Champions League.

Erik ten Hag’s side host Aston Villa tonight, hoping to end a run of four games without a goal in all competitions – their worst run since 1992.

Following the completion of his partial takeover, Ratcliffe penned an open letter to United fans, hinting he could make major changes.

It read: “I wanted to write to you at this time given the key role that fans play in the future of Manchester United as we recognize our responsibility as custodians of the club on your behalf.

“I believe we can bring sporting success on the pitch to complement the undoubted commercial success the club has enjoyed.

“It will take time and patience with rigor and the highest level of professional management. You are ambitious for Man Utd and so are we.

“There are no guarantees in sport, and changes can inevitably take time, but we are in it for the long term and together we want to help return Man Utd to where it belongs, at the very top of English European and world football.

“I take this responsibility very seriously.

“Please note that, like any other contract, it is subject to the normal regulatory signing process and therefore we do not expect to speak publicly about club matters until the contract is finalised.”
