Sister Wives’ Janelle Says Brown Family Was Always Heading Toward Downfall but Kody ‘Didn’t Want to Admit It’

Janelle Brown could see the end of her once happy polygamy coming from a mile away.

As the Brown family reflected on where things went wrong during Friday Sister wives answer episode, the reality star responded to a fan who asked why her now-ex-husband Kody Brown is still “so mad when he seems to be getting what he wanted,” since he’s living a monogamous life with his only remaining wife, Robyn Brown.

“I will say, there was a long time that what Kody really wanted was this big, united family,” said Janelle, 54. “When we all got together, we decided that the kids would treat each other like brothers and sisters. So that’s been his big goal for many, many, many years.”

From Janelle’s perspective, “part [Kody’s] anger” came from his dream about the “disintegration” of a big happy family.”

“I think we might be headed this way,” she continued. “He just didn’t want to admit it because he started saying things like, ‘I’m tired of taking on the job here,’ ‘I’m tired of being the one carrying these ties.’

Although the Browns have struggled for years, the departure of Christina Brown really shook things up. Janelle and Meri Brown also ended their marriage to Kody, resulting in the 54-year-old now maintaining a monogamous relationship with Robyn, 45.

Trying to pinpoint exactly what went wrong, Meri said during Friday’s episode that “there’s been a lot of speculation” on the subject.

“Was it bringing Robyn into the family? Was it going public? Was it moving to Las Vegas? You know, all those things that could have been,” said Meri, 52. “I don’t agree that it was one thing. I think it was a combination of things and we kind of stopped wanting to work together as a family.”

“Look, we’ve had our issues. There’s a great dynamic when you have those personalities, but we’ve worked really hard together for the benefit of the kids,” Janelle said separately.

Meri later remarked that she believed “polygamy could work” and that it “worked” in the first few years of their family. Speaking about his stance on the matter, Kody said, “Polygamy is something I’ve failed at so much that I don’t believe I believe in polygamy.”
