Addison Rae and Patrick Dempsey face off against a serial killer dressed as a pilgrim in a new holiday-themed slasher.
On Wednesday, Tristar Pictures released the official trailer for director Eli Roth’s new film Thanksgivingthe highly-anticipated horror film based on a fake trailer Roth, 51, created that ran in theaters during the 2007 Robert Rodriguez-Quentin Tarantino double feature. Grindhouse.
The new trailer introduces the citizens of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Nell Verlaque’s character on Thanksgiving as she recounts the events of a deadly Black Friday incident at a local department store. Meanwhile, Dempsey’s sheriff character asks a colleague to “show some enthusiasm” for the holiday, before the movie’s killer breaks into the restaurant’s kitchen and kills the employee.

As police locate a body atop a department store where past riots took place, a group of teenagers are tagged in an Instagram post showing a table set for Thanksgiving dinner by an account called “therealjohncarver” — the same name as John Carver, the first governor Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts from the 17th century.

As the killings continue, police note that the killer appears to be using holiday-inspired weapons — corn cob holders and ovens are used as lethal means — to commit the murders.
“After the Black Friday riots end in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “Picking off the residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings is soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister plan to get away.”

Roth told CinemaBlend back in 2010 that he intended to turn the original fake trailer, which also featured a murderous pilgrim, into a feature film. In 2016, he told fans in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread that he still needed to “put a little more work into it to make the movie live up to the trailer.”
Roth, known for his favorite horror films Cabin fever and Hostelhe created the story with screenwriter and friend Jeff Rendell, a pilgrim killer from Thanksgiving day original fake trailer. In addition to Rae, Dempsey and Verlaque, the film also stars Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Rick Hoffman and Gina Gershon.
Thanksgiving hits theaters November 17.
