Sister Wives’ Janelle Still Feels ‘Affection’ for Kody but ‘Wasn’t Heartbroken’ When Marriage ‘Fell Apart’

Janelle Brown is leaving her marriage to Kody Brown — but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have some lingering “affection” for him.

54 year old Sister wives star exclusively tells PEOPLE that everything has been “all amicable” between the exes since their split was announced in December 2022.

“I still feel some affection for him, but I don’t want to be married to him and I don’t want to be with him, but I have nothing wrong with him,” she says. “I really don’t hold a grudge.”

Despite still being on good terms with her ex, Janelle says: “I wasn’t heartbroken when the marriage broke up, maybe because we had been drifting apart for so long. It was just a bang that let us go completely away.”

In a brief overview of Sunday Sister wives episode, Janelle decides to spend her birthday with Kody despite their marital troubles. But she admits they “got to a point where we weren’t connected and I was really frustrated” before their latest fight.

She continues, “But on a very superficial level, Kody and I can go hang out and have a good time if I just separate and clean up all the other stuff. So when he called them and said, ‘Yeah, hey, that’s better than staying home and watching TV.'”

In a confessional from the upcoming episode, Janelle also questioned her future with Kody, explaining, “At this point, I really don’t foresee Kody and I working our relationship out.”

“I always have to be open to the possibility that somehow lightning will strike us and everything will be happily ever after,” she added. “But I’m also a realist and I know it doesn’t look good.”

Despite admitting that their last interaction was the “worst fight” they’ve ever had, she’s still hopeful that things will be peaceful during her birthday celebrations.

“I don’t want any fight,” she said. “I just want to take it easy, have fun and celebrate the day.”
