Sister Wives’ Meri Brown Says She Wishes She and Kody Had Been Real with Each Other ‘Sooner’

Meri Brown knows full well that her marriage to Kody Brown was far from perfect. But now that they are finally separated for good, she looks back on the time lost before they came to their devastating conclusion.

Meri, 52, and Kody, 54, tied the knot in 1990. The now exes — who share child Leon Brown — eventually struck up a polygamous arrangement with Janelle Brown before welcoming Christine Brown and Robyn Brown into plural marriage. Meri later divorced Kody so he could legally adopt Robyn’s children from her previous marriage.

The original Brown couple have experienced many problems over the years, and Mary’s catfish drama — in which she literally bonded with a woman posing as a male fan — served as a turning point in their strained relationship. From Mera’s perspective, she and Kody were “definitely” in “limbo land” for a while before they announced their separation in January after 32 years of marriage.

Sister wives‘ Kody feels ‘uncomfortable’ amid Robyn’s ‘pressure’ to reconcile with Meri: ‘I don’t need that’

“I don’t like living in a limbo country. And I feel like I live there a lot, but what I like now is that every limbo country I live in is based on me and not based on anyone else,” Sister wives star tells PEOPLE.

“I wish we could have had some conversations earlier. Also, I don’t know if I would have been ready for some conversations earlier,” she continues. “So it’s not like I can live my life with regrets and wish something had happened. I think we all do that to some extent, but I know there are things I should have learned and I know there are things I should have done so that I could to be where I am now with the whole thing.”

As for how she is doing now, Meri notes that “life is good.”

“I have some good things going on. I’m successful in my business. I have another really exciting project coming up, and I’ve only got some good things,” she adds. “I have good people around me. I have a great support system. And work is good, and personal life is good. And yes, things are good.”

Like Meri, Christine, 51, and Janelle, 54, also ended their marriages with Kody. Robyn, 44, is now Kody’s only wife.

Current season of Sister wives showed the moments that led to Meri and Kody’s split. On Sunday’s episode, Meri sat down with Kody and Robyn to let them know about her plan to spend more time in Utah for business reasons.

This revelation did not cause much concern for Kody, who in the confessional stated how he really felt about the couple’s marriage, despite Mera’s “hope” that they would reconcile.

“I’m not trying to act like we’re going back into this marriage in full shape,” he said. “I’m not trying to do that. I think I see the writing on the wall. I’m literally waiting for her to catch up.”
