Sister Wives' Meri Reads the Text She Sent Kody After Terminating Their Marriage: 'He Called Me Within 20 Minutes'

Meri Brown is sharing new details about her decision to end her three-decade marriage to Kody Brown.

The businesswoman, 53, got candid about the couple’s spiritual split as she caught up with friends Jenn and Brandi during Sunday’s Dec. 15 episode Sister wives.

Meri, who legally divorced Kody, 55, in 2014, noted that “within a week he’s like, ‘Why did you do it so fast?’ … He says, ‘I don’t understand why you did it so quickly. You have a guy waiting for you?'”

But she called his comments “offensive” because he had “no interest” in keeping their marriage together, noting that it was “the only other option.”

The reality star then revealed that she texted him after receiving the official dissolution of their marriage through their church. “I texted him and he called me back within 20 minutes,” she revealed.

“That was a good text… Do you want to hear it?” Meri continued before going to get her phone. After returning to her place between her friends on the couch, she began to read the message.

“I said this. I’m going to read it again. ‘Hi Kody, I just wanted to follow up on the text I sent a few weeks ago. I just wanted to let you know that I spoke with the leadership in Utah today and I’m officially fired. I’m heartbroken. I will always love and respect you. I hope you will have peace now and that I am freeing you from all worries about me. I got this.”

Meri revealed in a recent episode of Season 19 that she decided to end her marriage through her family’s church, explaining that she was “granted what in our church is called a dismissal, which is basically the same as a divorce.”

“It was a very, very difficult conversation, difficult in the sense of heartbreaking because this is not what I wanted to do. This is not what I intended when I married Kody,” she continued. “Back in 2014, Kody and I were legally divorced, and for me, the whole process was purely about the fact that he could marry Robyn [Brown] legally, and then adopt her three older children. But our spiritual marriage, our spiritual ceiling was still intact.”

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Meri — who officially announced the couple’s split in January 2023, the month after his marriages to Christine Brown and Janelle Brown fell apart — said the exes are now “friendly and kind to each other” when in the same space.

“I don’t think it’s inauthentic at all. It’s just not in a place where we’re calling each other and texting and saying, ‘Hey, buddy, how’s it going? What are you doing today?'” she explained. . “It’s not that kind of relationship, but when we’re in each other’s space, when we need to communicate. It’s perfectly fine.”

“I’m very comfortable with him. It’s not awkward as far as it goes, but we’re just not friends. Definitely not friends. You know what I mean? I’m happy with that,” she added.
