Sister Wives' Robyn Brown Talks 'Dark Place' Kody Fell into amid Splits as He Confesses He Was 'Bitter' (Exclusive)

On Sunday’s ‘One on One’ special, Kody admitted to “sabotaging” his relationship with Robyn, highlighting the “dark winds” that swayed his “destructive” tendencies

Sister wives stars, Robyn and Kody Brown, are still recovering from the way their polygamous marriage fell apart.

While speaking to PEOPLE about the couple’s transition period, Robyn admits that the departures of Christina, Janelle and Meri Brown caused a “big upheaval” in Kody’s self-image.

Kody’s marriages to his three sisters fell apart within 14 months. Although he is now only married to Robyn, the couple – who tied the knot in 2014 – have experienced many challenges in their relationship following his three splits.

“Kody’s been through a lot and dealt with a lot of frustration and anger and hurt and betrayal, and I’m also going through my own emotions about all of that,” she explains. “And that was hard on our relationship. It was really hard on our relationship because I think when you go through a divorce, you start questioning yourself.”

The mum-of-three says the collapse of their polygamous marriage also caused Kody to adopt “very self-sabotaging” habits as she noticed he even tried to sabotage their relationship.

“I think he’s just been in such a dark place,” adds Robyn.

Kody also opened up to PEOPLE about the strange “space” the couple has been in since Christine, Janelle and Meri left.

“Moving forward is still one of those things when you’re going through a divorce, you feel almost like God doesn’t exist, and you’re so angry, so bitter,” she admits. “You’ve got to let some sunshine back in. That’s the thing. I think we’re just at a transition point where I’m letting the sunshine back in.”

On Sundays Sister wives: one on one special, Robyn told host Sukanya Krishnan exactly how Kody is “trying” to sabotage their relationship and how she has to “stop him all the time.”

“He fights with me [over] stupid things,” she said through tears. “We’re in different places. We are in different places because of the bomb that exploded on our family. And like, I’m in a big place of grief and he’s angry. He just wants to find anything, you know? And I say, ‘No, I can’t feel that way.'”

Admitting that I “sabotaged myself a little bit … out of frustration and anger,” Kody also admitted that he intentionally hurt his marriage to Robyn because he wanted to “punish” himself. He even considered leaving Robyn as a way to further punish himself.

He added: “A lot of dark winds were going through me. A lot of hell, a lot of temptation, which would have been destructive to my relationship with Robyn. So I was dealing with a lot of anger and she would have been frustrated. My anger was disgusting. It was scary. .”
