The Food Network star opened up about his 27-year-old son’s recent engagement to fiancée Tara Bernstein
Guy Fieri is happy to have son Hunter following in his lofty footsteps — except for one thing.
While talking to PEOPLE about the return of his Flavortown Tailgate to the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas, the Food Network star opened up about his 27-year-old son’s recent engagement to fiancée Tara Bernstein.
“Hunter went and bought this monster diamond. I said, ‘Look, let’s just have a little talk, because if that ring is anywhere near as big as your mom, we’re going to have a big problem,'” jokes Guy.
In all seriousness, Guy’s Grocery Games star tells PEOPLE he is “so proud of [Hunter] on so many levels.”

Hunter proposed to his professional fiancee on Thanksgiving of this year, announcing the news in a joint Instagram post less than a year after they first met at Guy’s Super Bowl tailgate in February 2023.
“It was beautiful and it was poetic. And it was well said, and it was a great energy,” Guy says of the proposal. “And listen, I have no judgment about ‘when you know, you know.'”
Since he started dating Bernstein, Hunter has been absolutely smitten, says Guy.
“I’ve never seen him like this in all his 27 years. It’s completely out of hand. He is completely lost. We are happy that this is finally going to end and we can just move on because we lost him,” he says with a laugh. “And luckily she’s moving here to Northern California and it’s going to be great.”

He adds: “They are perfect for each other. They are the same person.”
Although Bernstein is still not the boss’s official daughter-in-law, Guy says he has a fun nickname for her.
“One day, Hunter and I, I don’t know where we were. We were leaving her. We were in the car. We were driving away, and she was getting out of the car and wanted to close the door. And we said, ‘Okay, Tara. See you soon.’ She goes, ‘Toodeloo!'” he recalls.
“I pulled over. I backed up. I rolled down the window. I say, ‘What did you just say?’ She says, ‘What did I say?’ I said, ‘You say toodeloo?’ She says, ‘Yes, toodeloo. Toodeloo!’ Who’s 26 and says ‘toodeloo?'” he says with a laugh.
Of course, the card earned her the perfect nickname Guy – plus a few personalized holiday gifts. “She doesn’t know it, but there are some ‘toodeloo’ items arriving this Christmas,” he says.

Earlier this month, Hunter and his fiancee also spoke to PEOPLE about their love story and engagement.
“We both knew we were going to marry each other. We just knew and we were just waiting for the moment when I could do it,” Hunter said, referring to their equally busy work schedules. “The only time I could [propose] it was Thanksgiving.”
So he did just that, surrounded by both sides of the family and gathered by the beautiful shore of the pond in the Fieris family’s backyard. “I’m trying to hold on to everything I’ve got,” Hunter recalled as he spoke to her on one knee in front of about 40 friends and family watching from afar.
“I’m nervous and I’m so happy with the emotions,” he recalled of the proposal. “Yeah, it was definitely an emotional moment.” Bernstein added: “I was in tears after… It was really, really beautiful.”
