Sithara Nair was born on Saturday, June 30, 1973 in Kilimanoor, Kerala, India (50 years old as of 2023). She completed her schooling from Lourdes Hill School, Vattapara, Thiruvananthapuram. She made her debut in the Malayalam film industry in 1986 with Rajeevnath’s directorial Kaveri, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, while pursuing her pre-university degree from Sree Sankara Vidyapetom College in Kilimanoor.

In 1993, Sitara played the female lead in Bharathan’s Chamayam, and her role as Lisa received positive reviews from the public. She was a part of Rajiv Anchal’s fantasy drama Guru (1997), in which she played the role of Vaidehi. This film is India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 70th Academy Awards. Sitara returned to the Malayalam film industry in 2009 with Rajasenan’s directorial Bharya Onnu Makkal Moonnu. In 2015, she played the role of Sujatha in Saigal Padukayanu directed by Sibi Malayya.

A milestone in her career was the 1990 musical film Pudhu Vasantham; the film was a commercial success and received positive reviews from critics. Pudhu Vasantham made her one of the top actresses in the South Indian film industry. Sitara played the role of Rajnikanth’s sister in the 1999 film “Padayappa” starring Rajinikanth. Facts/Trivia
- South Indian actress Shalini was initially chosen to play Rajinikanth’s sister in the film Padhayappa, but Sitara was later cast for the role. She pointed out in an interview that Rajinikanth is one of the most down-to-earth actors and she learned a lot from him during the shooting of Padhayappa.
- In an interview, she revealed that after becoming an actress, she missed celebrating Onam with her family and friends. She added that as a child she loved making Pookkalam (Rangoli flowers) as part of Onam celebrations.
- In her spare time she likes to read.
- She received the award for Best Actress (TV Series) from the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
