Sola Onayiga A Nollywood Actress Passed Away

Sola Onayiga, a famous Nollywood actress, died on July 18 and the reason for her death is yet to be ascertained. She became famous with the role of Ireti in the family drama Fuji House of Commotion.

Husseini Shaibu, a well-known film critic, revealed the news on Twitter, writing:

“I have just learned that acclaimed theater and film actress and theater arts contributor, Auntie Sola Awojobi Onayiga has passed away today.” Aunt Sola is best known for her role as Ireta aka Cooking Practicals in the failed TV comedy ‘CHESCHEM!’ “Travel safe, mom!”

Death of Sola Onayiga

Although the cause of her death for Onayiga has not been confirmed, according to some sources, she was taken to the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. However, the cause of Onayiga’s hospitalization is unclear and further information is awaited. The actor has had sickle cell anemia all his life. Her family members have not yet made an official comment on the matter, and it is not known if she has had any health problems in the past.

Sol Onayi’s professional career

In 2015, the Social Democratic Party elected Sola Onayiga to represent Ikorodu Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. She graduated from high school and started working for the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA).

Sola said in an interview:

“They hired me as an interviewer; that is, I questioned persons who traveled the country to get their comments on the suitability of Abuja as the Federal Capital Territory.” This happened sometime between 1976 and 1977. I was sent to the Dodan barracks to conduct interviews with the soldiers.”

She enrolled at the National Institute of Internal Auditors before going to study drama at the University of Ife (OAU). As a beginner, she made her debut in Fred Agbeyegbe’s The King Must Dance Naked, which was her first professional role. For the role of Queen Odosun, one of the main characters, she received a professional fee. After that, her supporters started calling her the Queen of Osun. She also starred in Checkmate, as well as several other Nollywood films.

Meanwhile, her presence at the Fuji House of Commotion is what first brought her to the attention of the entire country. Amaka Igwe produced and directed the comedy, which was a spin-off of the serial opera Checkmate. The plot of Fuji House of Commotion revolves around the life of a rich man who is married to four wives and has four children.

Sola Onayiga has made a name for himself over the years as a great actor. When news of her death spread, Twitter was flooded with tributes. Some expressed sadness after learning of the actress’ death. Fans also remembered another Nollywood actor, Ada Ameh, and showed their respect for both Onayiga and Ameh. Some fans have described the death of both ladies as “a pretty dark day for Nollywood”.
