Soldiers Hoping to Rescue Paralyzed Dog, Named Tiny Tammy, from the Middle East: It’s ‘Heartbreaking’

US soldiers hope to save a paralyzed dog living in the Middle East.

The dog, named Tiny Tammy by soldiers, cannot use her back legs and will likely die in the area if she is not treated, Paws of War, an animal welfare organization, said in a press release obtained by the PEOPLE.

“This is a heartbreaking situation and we are more than willing to step in and help save Tiny Tammy,” Robert Misseri, co-founder of the organization, said in a statement. “She’s not going to survive if we don’t get her out of there.”

“She lives in danger and every minute counts. We must act quickly to move her to safety,” he added. “Soldiers will not let their hearts and souls leave this baby.”

According to Paws of War, soldiers found Tiny Tammy hiding under an old couch, where she “was starving and terrified.”

“She was shaking in pain and her eyes were screaming for help,” said US Army Sergeant Jack, according to the organization.

Although he and his fellow soldiers provide food and care for Tiny Tammy, they are unable to bring her back to their base with them, so they team up with Paws of War to bring her to the US

“She won’t make it here, but if she can make it to America, I can give her a life where all her needs are met, and she’ll be safe and loved,” Sergeant Jack said. “She is fighting for her life. I can’t give her up now and I’m very grateful to everyone who is willing to help save her.”

According to Paws of War, “it is an expensive mission to relocate Tammy to America,” which is why they are currently fundraising to bring her to the US

The nonprofit — which also focuses on giving back to veterans in a variety of ways — says the extent of Tiny Tammy’s medical condition is currently “unknown.”

“However, he will receive a full medical evaluation and all the care necessary to recover and progress to the best of his ability,” the organization added.
