Videocon Group was founded in 1984 by Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot. In 1985, Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot decided to produce 100,000 television sets per year. Anirudh Dhoot claimed in an interview that Videocon was the first company to introduce color TV to India. Venugopal Dhoot holds directorships in Videocon Te communications Limited, Hindustan Oil Ventures Limited, Videocon Energy Limited, Jumbo Techno Services Private Limited and Senior Consulting Private Limited. According to reports, Venugopal Dhoot has made Videocon one of the leading brands of color TVs in India. In 2005, he was appointed as the Managing Director of Videocon Industries Limited. In 2010, he was reappointed as Managing Director of Videocon Group for a five-year term.

ICICI loan fraud case
In April 2018, the CBI questioned Venugopal Dhoot in connection with the ICICI-Videocon loan dispute. India’s Central Bureau of Investigation asked him, Chanda Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar and a few others to look into the alleged sanction of the rupee. ICICI provides loan of Rs 3,250 crore to Videocon Group. On December 23, 2022, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar for alleged irregularities in rupee loans. ICICI Bank had provided Rs 3,000 crore to the Videocon Group when it was headed by Chanda Kochhar. She was charged with criminal conspiracy and fraud by the CBI over reported irregularities in Rs. 3,250-crore loan to Videocon Group, which became a non-performing asset (NPA) of ICICI Bank in 2017. According to sources, Chanda Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar has partnered with Venugopal Dhoot to launch a company called NuPower Renewables. Venugopal Dhoot invested in NuPower Renewables using a loan issued by ICICI Bank. On December 26, 2022, Venugopal Dhoot was arrested by the CBI in connection with the ICICI Bank-Videocon fraud case.
