Sonia Mann was born into a Sikh family. Her father, Baldev Singh Mann, was the editor of the Naxalite revolutionary magazine Hirawal Dasta. He was also a left-wing activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist). Baldev was killed by Khalistani militants in Amritsar on September 26, 1990, while visiting his newborn daughter Sonia. Her mother Paramjit Kaur is the former principal of Sacred Heart Presidency School. Sonya is the only daughter of her parents. She was very close to her grandmother.

Sonia Mann started her acting career in 2012 with the Malayalam film Hide and Seek. Next, she played the role of ‘Lekha’ in the Malayalam film Teen. She made her debut in Punjabi films in 2013 with the Punjabi film “Haani”.
