Sonic Hedgehog #59 Written by Evan Stanley and illustrated by Adam Bryce Thomas. Launched in April, the magazine follows Sonic and his allies trapped in Eggperial City battling a deadly wave of cyborgs.

Both Silver and Blaze are essentially messengers of doom in the IDW series, only visiting Sonic’s world when big problems are imminent that need their help. Silver is from the future, so every time he comes it means something really bad has happened to his time and it’s long gone, the only way to fix it that he must go back in time before things spiral out of control. Meanwhile, Blaze lives in a different dimension than Sonic, but if Sonic’s world is in enough danger, her version of Chaos Emerald, the Sun Emerald, will spur her on.

The last time Silver and Blaze were forced to visit Sonic’s planet, Dr. Eggman lost control of the so-called Metal Virus, which turns creatures into mindless zombie robots, aka Zombots, and plants into metal objects. For Silver, he’s gone back in time, because everything and everyone in his day – including Dr. Eggman – is gone, except for the water and the mechanized factories. For Blaze, the Sol Emeralds’ will has made her realize that a terrible tragedy is about to happen in Sonic’s world and needs to be prevented. Interestingly, the two initially arrive before Metal Sonic steals the Super Emerald, making everyone think they’re there for him. Metal Sonic is certainly menacing enough. It needs not only their help, but the help of everyone else in Sonic’s world, with the exception of Tails who is piloting a giant plane that crashes into a motorized hedgehog. However, after Metal Sonic’s defeat, both Silver and Blaze felt it wasn’t big enough to warrant their survival, so they stayed. It wasn’t until the metal virus was wiped from Sonic’s world that the two felt comfortable enough to go home. Then what’s so scary that they need to be there Sonic Hedgehog #59?
