Southern Charm's Venita Aspen Says She's 'Not the Happiest About' How Relationship with Manny Ended (Exclusive)

Venita Aspen wasn’t feeling so celebratory while attending a party at Craig Conover’s house during the Jan. 9 episode Southern charm.

When Ryan Albert questioned the whereabouts of her boyfriend Manny Houston, she revealed that he had moved to New York and that they had broken up.

“Manny moved to New York for Broadway,” Venita, 31, told Ryan and co-stars Molly O’Connell and Rodrigo Reyes in Craig’s backyard. “Oh honey, he’s not coming back.”

This news surprised Ryan. “I knew he got the Broadway gig, but I didn’t know he wasn’t coming back,” he said. “What do you think about that?”

The fashion influencer simply replied, “I’m here.”

Ventia added that she plans to take things “one day at a time.”

“My mom is disappointed,” Venita told the group. “And this is the only boy she’s ever liked. And I dated a lot of men!”

In a flashback to a few weeks earlier, Venita could be seen telling Manny, “You’re moving to New York for at least four months.”

“Probably longer than that,” Manny replied.

Venita tells PEOPLE she’s “not the happiest” with how things turned out with Manny, who she set up after Season 8 ended.

“But life moves in funny ways and life moves in ways you don’t want it to sometimes,” she says.

However, with some distance from filming, she began to gain some clarity.

“It makes sense now,” says the reality star. “And I think I’ll do that a lot of times this season, actually. I’ll look back and say, ‘I understand why it happened that way,’ or ‘Okay, this follows.'”

However, Venita still has a special man in her life: her dog Charles, who filmed the tenth season with her. “Charles is like, ‘Yeah, I love being on TV,'” she says. “I know the audience loves him because I always get the cutest little DMs. They say, ‘Oh, my little dog loves it when Charles comes on TV!’ And I’ll get photos of them watching the show.”

She also formed a close friendship with co-star Jarrett “JT” Thomas.

“JT and I, when we first did it Watch what’s happening liveI think that’s when I could actually see our friendship blossoming,” says Venita. “We became close over the summer and it was quite difficult to meet the real JT. It was nice and refreshing.”

JT has since quit his job Southern charmand Venita admits that “a lot of the time she is in her own way”.

“I feel like he ended last year on a high note when he came in and said, ‘I’m going to show all these guys how to be a real man,'” Venita says. “This season I’m excited to see the guys and gals give JT a chance.”

It is now in its fourth season Southern charmVenita feels like “I’ve become a veteran” and “I don’t care what people say.”

“I never thought I’d be able to say that,” she continues. “I used to get caught up in all the little negative comments and rude things people had to say about me. And then I would accept it internally and go down this downward spiral of depression. But now I have learned that it is a powerful reflection of them.

And time has taught Venita that like her breakup, she’s all viewers see on the Bravo show. Still, “it’s nice to have that mindset now and be more open to the audience when it comes to sharing things,” she says. “I just say, ‘Hey, listen, this is real life.'”
