Spider-Verse Actor Shameik Moore Admits He’s a ‘Sore Loser’ After Saying Film Was ‘Robbed’ at Oscars 2024

Shameik Moore, lead voice actor in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versehe called himself a “tough loser” after the film didn’t take home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

At the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, the animated sequel was nominated alongside it Elemental, Nimona, Robot Dreams and the winnerThe boy and the heron.

On Sunday X (formerly known as Twitter), Moore, 28. wrote “robbed”, apparently referring to his film not taking home the award. (Also in 2019, the first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewon the Oscar category.)

In a follow-up post, the actor, who voices Miles Morales in the film, wrote: “Respect to the winners. It’s true, I’m definitely a big loser, but we didn’t lose, the Spiderverse has affected a LOT of lives, we may not have been acknowledged tonight, but life it goes further, and MORE…..yeah, get ready.”

One of the film’s screenwriters, Christopher Miller, reacted to the outcome on Instagram, writing: “We are so proud of our team. You have created a new cinematic language whose impact will be felt culturally and within the industry for years to come. And if I lose, I might to lose even from the GOAT.”

That “greatest of all time” reference is to Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese director The boy and the heron and others beloved Studio Ghibli films, such as those from 2001 carried away by the spirit, which also won the award for best animated film.

Miyazaki, who received an honorary Oscar in 2014, was not present to accept the win in person on Sunday.

When one X user tagged Moore with Miller’s statement and told the actor “this is how you react to defeat,” Moore wrote in response: “You’re right, honestly the entire Spiderverse team is such a good sportsman. Very professional and I’m excited to see what comes of this. I’m young and a fighter, so forgive my nature. Congratulations to the winners.”

Via Spider-Verse was a box office hit and also starred Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Issa Rae and more. The end sets up another sequel, entitled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
