Splashdown Paignton: Man in his 40s dies after incident at major tourist attraction as it’s forced to close

A MAN has died at a popular waterpark in a seaside resort – forcing it to close.

Paramedics rushed to treat a patient at Splashdown Quaywest, Paignton, Devon following the incident at lunchtime today.

Witnesses reported an air ambulance, multiple land ambulances and police at the waterslides attraction.

However, police have now revealed that a man in his 40s has died.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police added: “Despite the best efforts of those at the scene the man, in his 40s and from the Bristol area, later died.

“His next of kin have been informed and a file is to be prepared for the coroner.”

Earlier today a spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 12:04 to a medical emergency in the Paignton area.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance and an operations officer to the scene.

“One patient has been conveyed by land to Torbay Hospital.

“This incident does not involve a minor.”

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police added: “We supporting the ambulance service as an individual has suffered a medical episode nearby.”

A statement from Splashdown Waterparks read: “We are aware of an incident at Splashdown Quaywest waterpark that occurred approximately 12.15pm today.

“The person concerned is receiving medical attention from paramedics.

“We do not have any further details at present but we have taken the decision to close the waterpark today.

“We will be sending an email to anyone who is booked in to the park this afternoon and we are trying to contact by telephone where possible.

“If we do not get you before you leave then we are sorry but it is not something we could plan for or expect, we hope you understand that we will be doing our best.”
