‘Spunky’ Husky Stuck in Storm Drain Is Saved and Reunited with Family

A curious husky in Kentucky got into a strange situation over the weekend, resulting in a strange dog rescue!

On Sunday, Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control revealed that they “received several calls that morning regarding a husky that was trapped in a sewer drain.” The facility shared a video showing several members of their team going in to pull the dog out.

The video shows two women with a dog that can only partially poke its head out of the drain pipe.

One of the ladies lies on her stomach and tries to comfort the dog, while her filming colleague looks for a way to get him out. They are both patient, holding out their hands for him to sniff and gain his trust, while talking to him in soft, childlike voices.

“Are you good, honey?” the other woman asked in an optimistic tone as he sniffed her hand.

“The husky, named Sebastian, has always wanted to meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but instead he finds himself face to face with several animal control officers!” the organization continued in its Facebook post.

The video then cuts to Sebastian emerging from the sewers, being happily petted in the facility while wagging his tail.

“Dear Sebastian is now safe and sound in our facility and is eagerly waiting to be reunited with his owners! We love happy endings!” the post has been added.

By Tuesday, the clip of the cute rescue had been viewed 42,000 times.

Lt. Jai Hamilton, who was one of the Animal Care and Control officers who rescued Sebastian on Allen Drive, said Lexington Herald-Anchor the dog was “very loud. He obviously needed and wanted help.”

The officer added that it was a “pretty easy rescue” after they were able to use a crowbar to pry the lid off the drain.

“He was super happy and made a lot of noise,” Hamilton said. “He’s just wonderful.”

While officers aren’t entirely sure how Sebastian managed to get into the narrow sewer opening, they believe he may have been chasing a smaller animal before he got stuck. However, they are happy that the dog is fine.

“This was a really fun call for us because our job can be very sad,” Hamilton said Herald-Leader. “We love helping animals and we’re always out in the community, and whenever we can help an animal, we do whatever we can.”
