Sriram Krishnan met (literally) his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy for the first time on Yahoo! Chat room for coding projects. They met at SRM Engineering College in 2003; they were both studying software engineering at the time. They initially became friends and began dating in 2006.

Sriram Krishnan started his career at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, in 2005 as a Visual Studio project manager. At Microsoft, most of his work was providing APIs/services to the Windows Azure division. He worked there for approximately six years, resigning in May 2011. In 2013, he joined Facebook (now Meta) as a program manager and worked on the Facebook Audience Network, a competitor to Google’s ad tech, to create a mobile advertising product that would become one of the largest networks in display advertising. From 2016 to 2017, Sriram held a management role at Snap Inc., where he led various revenue products and monetization efforts. He also worked at Yahoo! It’s been a while.

In 2017, he joined Twitter, a microblogging and social networking company, as senior director of product. As part of his work at Twitter, Sriram helped develop the core user experience by redesigning the homepage. Sriram works on Twitter’s main timeline, building new UI for the platform, search, audience growth, and more. He has also made multiple investments and served as an advisor to a number of companies, including Figma, Notion, Cameo, Coda, VSCO, Scale.ai, SpaceX, CRED, and Khatabook. In 2021, Sriram joined Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreesen Horowitz (also known as a16z) as a general partner; Andreesen Horowitz is the main investor in the social audio application Clubhouse. The company also invested in Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Krishnan serves on the boards of companies such as Bitski, Hopin and Polywork. He also hosts a podcast called “The Good Time Show” with his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy. In the show, he talks about technology and cryptocurrencies and engages in interesting conversations with guests, who often include innovators in technology and culture. In the show, Sriram invited many famous people including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Kanye West and Calvin Harris. “Good Time Show” earlier aired on Clubhouse and later moved to YouTube.

In 2022, Sriram helped Elon Musk transform Twitter after Musk acquired the microblogging platform. Krishnan confirmed in a tweet that he was helping Musk via Twitter, saying:
Now the word is out: I’m temporarily helping @elonmusk on Twitter along with some other great people. I (and a16z) believe this is a very important company that can have a huge impact on the world, and Elon is the man to make it happen. “

This is quite an interesting story. Until around 12th standard (sometime in 1999), I had never touched or used a computer except for a few DOS commands that we learned by rote during exams. I had wanted to be a writer or go into graphics and animation. One day in twelfth grade, my computer science teacher called me during lunch break and my life changed. It turns out that an unknown organization (named Comp-U-Learn) is offering a free promotional “Introduction to Computers” course. Guessing it couldn’t hurt (and it was free after all), I happily trotted off to this computer academy where we learned how to create folders, how to draw in Paint, and more. “
Further, while sharing an incident that had a profound impact on his life, Sriram said,
There was a class where we were learning how to copy and paste and the teacher happened to say “please right click on the ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop”. I raised my hand in confusion and asked eagerly: “Sir, where is the desktop?” Everyone in the class, including the teacher, laughed. I’m injured. In an almost cinematic way, I swore to myself then that no one would ever laugh at me for my computer again. The “course” lasts 15 days, and the college wants students to sign up for an additional 30 days of C/C++ courses. I was the only student signed up for additional courses. My dad bought me a computer the day after I completed my 12th class and TNPCEE engineering entrance exam. This is a P3, 850 MHz machine with up to 256 MB of memory. I was hooked the whole holiday. I spent the whole vacation coding in VB6 and I’ve been coding ever since…”
