I was convicted by association, I had a boyfriend, and in Chicago, gang violence was so bad that if you were with criminals and there were more than four of you, you were all charged with the same crime. They were robbing houses, stealing things, and I was involved. I was charged, and I spent a year in jail, and I was a teenager, and I was supposed to be there until I was 21. I never took anything, and I never made a penny from it. I was small and I was the only girl, so they would put me in the window and I would open the door to let them in. ”
In the podcast, she also revealed that she had developed relationships with women in prison, including “texting” and kissing. She added,
I had a few girlfriends. I was only 16 and had never been exposed to that kind of behavior, and it was my first time in that kind of environment. I remember having a boyfriend when I was in prison, and I felt like I wasn’t into girls at the time, but slowly, because everyone around you was having lesbian contact and lesbian relationships, it started to become the norm. If everyone in the community around you is doing something or acting a certain way, everyone, at least in that environment, tends to convert to that.”
