Sriya Lenka, India’s first K-pop star, is expected to debut with BLACKSWAN later this year.

Sriya and Gabi are reportedly debuting in BLACKSWAN after BLACKSWAN’s fifth member, Hyeme, is confirmed to leave in 2020. A Korean media site reported the likely return following an interview with Sriya Lenko. Sriya Lenka is the first (and perhaps the only) Indian K-pop idol. She is also the first South Asian K-pop idol. Millions of K-pop fans in India are overjoyed and full of hope at this news. BTS’ English single Dynamite, released in 2020, introduced a whole new generation of followers to the business.

Many fans were able to show off their skills online as a result of the Covid lockdown, as many resorted to studying rigorous K-pop choreography and honing their Korean speaking skills to pursue their ambitions of becoming K-pop stars. After Hyeme left DR Entertainment after being accused of fraud, DR Entertainment held tryouts for a spot as the group’s fifth member in 2021.

Sriya and Gabi were the last two finalists of Project Cygnus, and were flown to South Korea for a two-month intensive training program. Only one of the two trainees was scheduled to debut with BLACKSWAN. Cygnus, which literally means “swan constellation”, is a DR Entertainment initiative that seeks out and trains trainees to become stars like the Cygnus constellation. Sriya and Gabi are the first generation of participants of the program, and the initiative will continue in the future.

Netizens watched the two trainees battle it out on social media for the chance to debut with the group. On May 26, the agency announced that both trainees will debut as the fifth and sixth members of the K-pop group. Sriya Lenka (18) comes from the Indian state of Odisha and has been dancing since the age of twelve. She studied Odissi (an Indian classical dance technique from the state of Odisha), hip-hop, modern dance and freestyle. Gabriela Strassburger Dalcin was born in Florianopolis, Brazil and performed as Gabs with the dance ensemble Queen of Revolution. She is also a talented singer who studied musical theater from the age of nine.
