The Stache is the champion of Thanksgiving.
The Sealyham terrier, whose registered name is GCHP CH Goodspice Efbe Money Stache, won Best in Show at the 22nd Annual National Dog Show presented by Purina. The Philadelphia Kennel Club hosted the event, and the 2023 National Dog Show aired on NBC on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
It was a hometown win for Stache, who lives in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, and his manager Margery Good, who hails from Cochranville.
“It feels exciting to win,” Good said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “Stache easily handles a lot of things going on around him. He’s so well balanced and loves to show off.”
Best in show! Winners of national dog shows over the years
Before taking home the Best in Show title, Stache won the National Dog Show in the terrier group, which allowed him access to the Best in Show circuit with six other group winners: Sporting Group M winner Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Non-Sporting winner Pumpkin Dalmatian , winner of the Toy Comet Shih Tzu group, winner of the working group Carson, Great Dane, winner of the hound group Yaro Azawahk and winner of the Herding group, Heathcliff the German shepherd.
Best in Show judge Carrie Chase declared Stache the winner and awarded second place, known as Reserve Best in Show, to Dalmatian Pumpkin.
“This dog’s condition, breed type and entertaining skills combine to create the epitome of a great dog,” Chase said in a statement.
