STAR WARS icon Angus MacInnes has died aged 77 as tributes pour in for the blockbuster actor.
The movie star was best known for his role as Jon ‘Dutch’ Vander, the Golden Leader, in the first film of the franchise.

His character took part in the 1977 film Rebellion and was killed in battle during the attack on the first Death Star.
Angus died on December 23, his family confirmed in a heartbreaking statement.
They said: “To all Angus’ fans around the world, it is with broken hearts that we write this: Angus MacInnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and actor passed away on 23 December 2024.
– He left us peacefully, surrounded by family and love.
Their heartfelt words continued with tributes to his legacy and work.
They added: “Angus’ career spanned decades, with memorable roles in films such as Star Wars: A New Hope (as Gold Leader, Jon “Dutch” Vander), The Witness, Judge Dredd, Captain Phillips and many more.
“His work touched countless lives, and he was very proud to be a part of these stories that continue to resonate with audiences around the world.”
Fans will remember Angus’ famous character for flying the Y-wing and commanding a squadron of gifted pilots during the rebellion from the first film.
His family’s tribute confirmed how important the world-famous franchise and the fans were to him.
They wrote: “For Angus, Star Wars fans held a special place in his heart. He loved meeting you at conventions, hearing your stories and sharing your passion for the saga.

“He was constantly humbled, delighted and honored by the admiration and passion of fans and the convention community.”
These touching words also described Angus as “a kind, thoughtful and generous soul who brought warmth and humor to the lives of all who knew him”.
Angus was born in 1947 in Ontario, Canada, and was known for his roles in other famous Hollywood films.
Some of these include The Witness, which also starred Harrison Ford, and the 2004 film Hellboy.
Fans left their tributes to Angus on Facebook.
Some people shared their memories of meeting and knowing the Star Wars icon.
One person said: “I had the privilege of meeting Angus in person, for which I am very grateful. RIP Goldleader.”
Another fan wrote: “So sorry for your loss. I had the honor of meeting him in 2002 or so and often discussed his posts.
“He was very kind. I’ll raise a glass to the Gold Leader, on his lap.”
A third fan said: “Had the pleasure of meeting Angus many times at Cons, he was such a lovely man, RIP.”
