Starbucks Oleato Drinks, Which Are Infused with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Are Launching Nationwide

  • Starbucks Oleato (meaning oiled) adds Partanna extra virgin olive oil to sweet cream cold foam and select espresso drinks
  • After launching at Starbucks locations in Italy in February 2023, Oleato will now be available at all U.S. locations
  • There are two new Oleato drinks to choose from — or customers can add Oleato Gold Foam to any iced drink

Oleato for everyone!

Starting January 30, Starbucks locations nationwide will offer drinks and foam infused with extra virgin olive oil. Oleato (Italian for oiled) debuted in Italian Starbucks stores in February 2023, and appeared in some California locations in spring 2023. It will now appear in all stores across the US and Canada starting Tuesday.

Oleato Golden Foam, a sweet vanilla cream infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil, can be added over any existing cold drink, such as soft drinks and iced lattes – but the chain also has several new drinks to choose from.

Paired with Oleato’s North American debut is the new Oleato Golden Foam Shaken Iced Espresso with Toffeenut. Blonde espresso is combined with caramel and oat milk, then topped with Oleato Golden Foam.

In addition, the Oleato Caffè Latte with oat milk, which was launched in tandem with the line’s soft launch last year, will provide another option for future first-time Oleato users. It is made from blonde espresso roast, oat milk and olive oil, and can be ordered hot or with ice.

In the Starbucks app, there are some customization recommendations for expedited ordering — including adding Golden Foam to your Iced Chai Latte, Iced Matcha Latte, Refreshing Dragon Drink, and Refreshing Paradise Drink.

The Oleato concept was created after the visit of Starbucks founder Howard Schultz to Sicily, when he encountered the Mediterranean custom of consuming a spoonful of olive oil every day. While drinking his morning coffee, he got a spark of inspiration to mix the two daily routines, creating a smooth, velvety texture of the drink. His moment of discovery gave birth to what Starbucks calls “the sublime coffee experience.”

Oleato is available in other locations around the world, from London and Paris to Osaka and Tokyo.

If olive oil coffee isn’t for you, Starbucks recently rolled out a winter menu with options like Iced Hazelnut Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, Pistachio Cream Cold Brew, and Pistachio Latte.
