Sterling K. Brown thought he knew what to expect when reunited with This is us creator Dan Fogelman for ParadiseHulu’s new political thriller. But even Brown was caught by unprepared characteristic twists in the story of a television writer.
In the new series, whose debut episode came out early on Sunday, January 26, Brown plays a secret service agent and single father of two children, Xavier Collins, who becomes the chief suspect in the investigation of shocking murder of President Cala Bradford (James Marsden).
The premiere episode follows Xavier as he reveals the president’s body and quietly begins to explore the murder before it is detected that Xavier and other his colleagues live in a highly controlled underground bunker. However, two mysteries remain: Who killed President Bradford and how/why are these people there?
Brown, 48, was one of many who were shocked by the turn, saying to People that even he felt that the end of the pilot was unexpected, despite knowing that Fogelman, 48, often works.

“I said, ‘You son of a gun. You did it again,'” the brown word fogelman recalls. “Because I forgot who I had to do with. I thought I was just watching a political thriller and trying to figure out who killed the president. And that was enough. I was completely pleased.”
“And then I learned that the whole thing happens in this bunker that the sun is not the sun, that ducks are not ducks that eat mother,” he continues. “There is something completely and completely different.”

Brown, who last worked with Fogelman on a hit series of NBC This is us From 2016-2022 (who also had a pilot full of surprises), adds creator of the series: “This guy has a way. I look at the series promotions and show Cala Bradford, see Marsden, lying on the floor bloody when he got out of his head, I thought, ‘Did we Do you have too much? ‘ [But] We didn’t give it, nothing – it’s just the tip of the iceberg. ”
Before that moment, Brown says that Fogelman gave him the biggest compliment by writing the script, keeping in mind. “I read 106 of his scenarios until I read the pilot, and then it was 107. And he was as good as those 106 I worked with on it This is us”, He explains.

More than playing a dramatic role, Brown was delighted to meet his friend again.
“He is a good person,” he divides the American fiction Fogelman star. “In this industry, we have talented people who are unkind. And I was grateful, mostly, for not spending a lot of time with these people. The people whom God put on my path were both things and the day is on top of that list And so I knew it wouldn’t just be a good show – I knew I would have a good time by recording that show. ”
“If it wasn’t for him, he wouldn’t have been the same,” Brown adds, noting that taking the role of Xavier was also intriguing because it was shot in Los Angeles in a very well -known location: in Paramount Studio, in the same place where he was filmed This is us has been shot.
“It’s almost all my team from This is us is in this show, “he explains.” There’s the same hair and makeup department there. It works known and different at the same time. ”
“It’s like the whole family went on a big family vacation to Australia and … we watched lions, and now we look at the kangaroo,” Brown adds. “So we all have the opportunity to do it together. All these things combined together make the perfect gathering.”
