Steve Buscemi was allegedly punched in the face while walking down the street in New York.
The actor was “attacked in midtown Manhattan,” his publicist told PEOPLE, calling the actor “another victim of a random act of violence in the city.”
The 66-year-old native New Yorker is doing well, his publicist says, noting that while he “appreciates everyone’s good wishes,” he is “incredibly sad for everyone who had this happen to them while also walking the streets of New York.”
Police said Buscemi — who recently joined the Netflix cast Wednesday — was walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood around 11:50 a.m. on May 8 when he was randomly punched in the face by a stranger, New York Daily News and New York Post reported.
After the attack, Fargo The actor’s face and left eye were swollen and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital, according to the media. In the meantime, the attacker fled the scene.

The attacker was last seen wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, black pants and white sneakers, police said. New York Daily News and New York Post.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The attack happened about a month after the man assaulted Buscemi Boardwalk Empire costar Michael Stuhlbarg with the rock in Manhattan on March 31.
After the attack, 27-year-old Xavier Israel was taken into custody after punching Stuhlbarg in the back of the neck, according to the NYPD.
