Steve Sarkisian Health Update: What Happened To Him? Weight Loss

Steve Sarkisian lost weight after heart surgery in 2020. Sarkisian was characterized as a ticking time bomb, but Nick Saban saved him. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been clean for eight years. It has also been eight years since the event at USC. Sarkisian was fired from USC when he showed up drunk during meetings and games. He also had a stormy divorce from his first wife, with whom he had three children. But, gradually and surely, his life began to return to normal. His current wife, Loreal, was very helpful, but so was the coach’s determination to change his life.

Steve Sarkisian’s Weight Loss: Does He Have a Disease?

Steve Sarkisian’s weight loss can be attributed to the healthy lifestyle he followed after heart surgery. The football coach is now unaffected by any illness or disease. Sarkisian had heart surgery in 2020. At the time, Sarkisian was still coaching at Alabama under Nick Saban. Heart surgery was performed to treat a congenital cardiovascular abnormality.

The procedure created a 7-inch vertical scar from the top of his chest to the bottom of his abdomen, but it saved his life. The Texas coach and family are grateful to Nick Saban. Saban’s father died of heart disease when he was 46 years old. Because of this, Šaban ordered that all his employees be tested for heart health. During an extensive physical examination, the doctor noticed that Sarkisian had heart problems and immediately advised him to seek emergency surgery. Doctors induced deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, slowed his heart to a crawl, lowered his body temperature, and then cut him open.

The study also revealed that Steve was born with a bicuspid valve, which occurs in only 1% of the population. Sarkisian’s recovery took place during COVID-19, and he had to do heart and lung exercises. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2020, Steve said the procedure helped him lose some weight. He also said he felt lighter on his feet during training.

Steve Sarkisian’s wife helps in difficult times

In 2015, Steve Sarkisian was at an all-time low. He was fired by USC after exhibiting erratic behavior during practice. After divorcing his first wife, the coach struggled with drinking. But soon he met his second wife, Loreal Sarkisian, who guided him through the most difficult period of his life. Saban has remained sober since his dismissal from USK.

Sarkisian stated in 2017, two years after the event, that he was still in a treatment program for his alcohol problems. He informed reporters that he started drinking while coaching the Washington Huskies from 2009 to 2013. Sarkisian said in 2021 that if that event had not happened, he would not be the man he is today. He also said that his experience will benefit his teammates who regularly face difficulties.

Steve said he wants to become a role model to look up to. Steve discussed his wife and her influence on the Pivot Podcast.

“The reality is that there were things in my life that required me to reconnect with the Lord, and she helped me do that,” the coach said. “I had to rediscover my self-respect.”

He went on to explain, “She was the one when work came in, she’d say, ‘I don’t think that’s the one, I think you’re better than that.’ Sarkisian said Loreal gave him the courage to start over. It was Loreal who helped her husband walk again and helped him recover from heart surgery in 2020. It was only a week after they got married.

In an interview, Loreal talked about her anxiety after Steve’s surgery. She wondered if Steve would ever return to regular activities, even training. She would also drive him to work every day at 5am, as Steve had forbidden. But Steve quickly regained his stride and now the two are seen enjoying their best lives in Texas.
