BBC Radio 2 presenter Steve Wright died on 13 February 2004 aged 69. His cause of death has not been released, but his family released a statement saying: “It is with deep sadness and deep regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright. “In addition to his son Tom and daughter Lucy, Steve is survived by his brother Laurence and father Richard. Also, beloved close friends and colleagues, and the millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve to enter their daily lives as one of the UK’s most enduring and popular radio personalities. “While we all grieve, the family requests privacy in this extremely difficult moment.”

He hosted his weekend morning show Sunday Love Songs on Radio 2 until his death. He received the award for the best DJ of the year and was awarded the TRIC personality of the year. Steve’s salary was between £465,000 and £469,000 in 2018-2019, making him the BBC’s fifth highest-paid presenter. They cut his salary by £85,000 from last year.
