Strictly Come Dancing makes format change – did you notice?

Strictly Come Dancing is back and we’re delighted to see all the celebs doing their best, but fans of the show were left intrigued when they noticed a slight change to the format on Saturday night.

Over the past few years, when a celebrity and their professional partner have headed out to join other couples and chat with Claudia Winkleman following their routine, a little replay of their dance has been played. In previous years, the camera focused on the couple running up the stairs to greet the others, and sometimes the microphones picked up snippets of small talk.

They would range from pure joy if their routine was positively received, to professionally offering words of comfort if Craig was being particularly mean when speaking his mind.

Even during the first week of the competition this replay was played, but this week when Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell and Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe made their way up, their full ascent of the stairs was filmed, as you can see in the clip below.

Speaking of his secret trick to having fun with HELLO! and other media, she explained: “The fact that I can do a high kick is because I’m so flexible because I know that you have to be ready for the job that you would be doing.

“The most recent thing I did that required real stamina was when I worked at the Queen’s funeral. I was on air at 3am on television and finished at 4.30pm, 1pm, and you can’t do that if you’re not in shape .”

She continued: “I know people don’t describe people as fit because you sit down. Well I mean, I think that’s what you know is very nice of her [Shirley] if I said that, but the fact that I can do splits and high kicks is like a party trick, if you’re doing a Rumba or a Cha-Cha-Cha, it’s a really lovely waltz and tango that requires you to dance.”

Even before the show aired, her fellow cast members tagged her as one of the stars to watch out for. “That day we did the Charleston move. We all got together and it didn’t look good,” explained Nigel Harman. “But Rippon…” Amanda Abbington, who joined Nigel for the Q&A, added: “She doesn’t break a sweat. But she’s amazing!”

Nigel then admitted that whoever stood up to the first Come to the dance presenter in a terrible competition for dancing faces.
