Strictly shock as show favourite is axed after claims of backstage feud in ‘closest dance off yet’

STRICTLY Come Dancing has seen another celebrity booted out after host Claudia Winkleman branded it “the closest dance ever”.

Saturday’s live show ended with Adam Thomas and Angela Rippon battling it out at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Adam, who viewers believed was in a secret row with a Strictly co-star last week, was given his marching orders.

After his name was announced, the Waterloo Road actor, 35, told presenters Claudia and Tess Daly that he had had an “amazing seven weeks”.

The star, who is father to Teddy, nine, and Elsie, five, added: “I wanted to teach my kids, you know, sometimes it’s not about winning or losing. It’s about doing your best.”

Strictly reached the halfway point last night with Ellie Leach and Vita Coppola at the top of the leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Adam and his Russian pro partner Luba Mushtuk, 33, came last after scoring just 27 points for their rumba.

The actor was on the dance floor a week ago, where he stayed in the show at the expense of Love Island star Zara McDermott (26).

Tonight, Adam, who has rheumatoid arthritis, made several mistakes in his final dance which saw the judges unanimously decide to save TV presenter Angela, 79.

This comes after he revealed that he had to miss training sessions due to his illness.

He told The Sun last week: “I’m surprised I’ve lasted this long without getting sick.

“I had to miss work and some training.”

He was also forced to pull out of Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two last month due to a debilitating illness.

Last week, viewers were distracted by Adam’s off-stage antics.

Some have claimed that Adam and Zara McDermott – who went head-to-head in the dance-off – may not be the best of friends backstage.

One person posted on X: “Lol Adam doesn’t clap for Zara while Luba does.”

Another asked: “Wasn’t I the only one who saw Zara turn her back on Adam and Luba when they walked towards her during the final dance?!”

However, Adam soon dispelled any break-up rumors with a very nice post-show tribute to Zara after Halloween week.

He captioned the couple’s selfie: “Literally the only picture I had of this one… and I took it off google haha.

“But I just wanted to say that I know it’s just a dance show and a bit of fun for people watching at home…but for us…it becomes so much more!!”
