Adam Thomas is getting ready to make his debut on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor, but ex Emmerdale the star admitted that he was worried that his health might prevent him.
Earlier this year, the 35-year-old revealed that he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and in an interview with HELLO! and other media outlets, expressed his concern that the illness might affect his time on the show. “I’m very worried about that, there’s no doubt about it,” he admitted.

“I hope to continue and I hope the pain is not too great. It will set me back a little, there are things I can and cannot do, I just have to work on it. And I have a great dancer.”
Speaking about his condition alongside a photo of his family, he explained: “I’ve been in a lot of pain since January, it started with my knees, then my wrists, fingers and now my ankles and toes. I never knew what was going on and finally after a few blood tests and going back and forth to doctors and hospitals, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis!”

Admitting he was surprised to hear his diagnosis, Adam added: “I thought it was something people got later in life… but that’s not the case, obviously! It’s been a tough old year but… I’m finally on the right track now! Finally everything under control. For now!”

This means that in their constant rivalry with their brothers, they may not be able to reach some of the records. “It’s ongoing with me and my brothers,” he joked. “My brother did Love Island and came third, I did Jungle and came third and Ryan did Big Brother and came first, and now I’m going to step up my game.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen but I’m trying but you know we all have a bit of a joke and everything but between all of us we’ve typed almost every reality show that we’re going to be out of a job after this!”
Elsewhere in the interview, Adam admitted that his wife Caroline Daly, who is a dancer, did not share advice with him. He joked: “None. I wish there was, but no, not yet.”

Adam is best known for his role as Adam Barton on ITV Emmerdaleas well as for his role as Donte Charles in BBC One’s Waterloo Road. He also finished third in the 2016 ITV series I’m a celebrity…Get me out of here.
On signing up for the 2023 series, Adam said: “I’m so excited to be joining the cast of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve been such a huge fan of the show for years, I can’t believe I’m actually doing it!”

He admitted, “I can’t dance to save my life, but I’m buzzing to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Get me on that dance floor… I can’t wait!”
