It’s the second injury to hit Nick on Strictly after he injured his shoulder and arm while changing a car tyre.

Nick broke his silence after The Sun exclusively revealed the news, speaking to X and saying: “I’m completely gutted and feel very very sad.”

A source said: “Nick won’t be able to take part in Strictly tomorrow night after injuring his knee.

“He was at a dress rehearsal with his partner Luba Mushtuk when he jumped and landed awkwardly.

“Nick injured his knee and now has to use crutches to get around.

“It is such a devastating blow for him and he is supported by the Strictly team.

“They’re sending him for a scan and doing everything they can to make sure he’s OK.

“Nick had to fight to make sure he could take part in the first live show after injuring his arm and shoulder and he did well.

“This new injury has been a real blow and he is incredibly upset about it.

“Luba and Nick are hoping it’s nothing but minor and he can recover in time for next week.”

A spokesperson for Strictly said: “Unfortunately, Nick Knowles sustained an injury during rehearsals and will not be dancing this weekend as a result.

“Under competition rules, Nick and Luba will be given a bye until next week when hopefully they can dance again. Everyone at Strictly Come Dancing wishes Nick a speedy recovery.”

Nick and Luba were supposed to dance the Charleston to Rain on the Roof from Paddington 2.

The Sun was the first to tell how Nick injured himself at the start of the competition while changing a tire on his car.

He was under medical supervision and examined during rehearsals.

A source said at the time: “If after rehearsal the doctor thinks Nick is going to make his injury worse then he will be off Strictly for good.

“This is really Nick’s last chance.

“The BBC is putting his health above all else.

“If the doctor thinks Nick is at risk of injury, then his strict sleep will be over.

“Nick is really positive because he thinks he’s going to be fine, but his welfare and health have to come first.”

He got a last minute reprieve and was allowed to dance.

Nick impressed the judges with his American Smooth to Blur’s Parklife and scored 22nd.
