Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Gizmo Sets Up Teen Titans

The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer that debuted at DC FanDome 2021 confirmed the appearance of Gizmo, a frequent Teen Titans villain. Although Gizmo has never held Suicide Squad membership in the comics, the trailer seems to set him up as the one who gives Task Force X their weaponry. Gizmo’s appearance in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League signals the existence of the Titans in the universe, with the potential they could appear or be referenced in the game.

The bald inventor first appeared in The New Teen Titans #3 and was popularized through his appearances in Titans-led television shows, such as the 2003 animated series from Cartoon Network. Gizmo has shown up in previous DC video games, including DC Universe Online and LEGO DC Super-Villains. Adding to the list of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League heroes/villains, there’s potential for the villain’s inclusion to lead to further Teen Titans references in the game, and potentially even a cameo from some of its members, given their own connections to the Justice League as well.

In the trailer, Gizmo meets the Squad and says how eclectic the group is. It’s possible this scene occurs when Amanda Waller sends Task Force X into Metropolis to take down the Justice League. As the inventor isn’t typically associated with the Suicide Squad or the Justice League, his role in the game could signal that the Teen Titans will appear in the game, either as fully-realized characters or as simple references to expand Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse, which the studio has built since Batman: Arkham Asylum.

How The Teen Titans Could Appear In Kill the Justice League

While they’ve yet to be confirmed for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the Teen Titans could show up due to the confirmation of Gizmo. It’s unlikely the team will appear as playable characters, but including them as NPCs isn’t farfetched. The Suicide Squad game’s true villain, Brainiac, has brainwashed the Justice League, leading to the Suicide Squad being called into action. The premise is similar to 2016’s Justice League vs. Teen Titans animated film, which showed the Justice League possessed by demonic entities of Trigon and the Teen Titans intervening to fight them. As DC has already depicted battles between the Justice League and the Teen Titans, plus the fact that typical Titans foe Gizmo will appear in the game, the young team could appear to help bring down the brainwashed heroes.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Titans will have a role in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but it’s definitely possible they’ll be referenced. Gizmo’s interactions with the Suicide Squad in the trailer seemingly set him up to be the one who Waller calls on when needing new gear for her assets. Waller also comments in the trailer that the current lineup isn’t the first group of assets she’s sent to fight the brainwashed Justice League. While this is likely a reference to the other Suicide Squad members in SSKTJL, it’s possible that she’s referring to other individuals who’ve attempted to make it into Metropolis, such as the Teen Titans.

Gizmo’s appearance in the most recent Suicide Squad game trailer hints that the Teen Titans at least exist in the Rocksteady DC game universe. Both Dick Grayson and Tim Drake have already had major roles in previous Batman: Arkham games, and it’s possible they could also be around in this one. Fans will see if and how the Titans appear when Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases in 2022.
