Jasmine Ellis Cooper is excited to step into her “mommy era!”
The Summer Home: Martha’s Vineyard star, 31, is expecting her first child with husband Silas Cooper, she revealed exclusively to PEOPLE.
“We’ve been trying for a while now. Not that we’ve been preventing it, to be honest,” she laughs. “I was feeling a little weird one day and, you know that feeling you get? I took a test and it came back positive.”
The mom-to-be tells PEOPLE, “Everything I thought about how I was going to tell him — because we both wanted to be parents and start a family — just went out the window. I literally just ran into the other room by myself, jumped on him and said, ‘ We’re pregnant! We did it!'”
Admitting that Silas was taken aback by the revelation, she continues: “He got very emotional and shed a tear or two. It was really exciting and very simple. I wish I had documented it, but the way he reacted is cemented in my brain .”

Also exciting for the couple was sharing the news of their baby with family and friends.
– At first, only my family knew. And then we found out that we’re having a boy, which is really exciting – revealed Jasmine. “We are starting to shoot this season Summer houseI knew I was going to let them know, but I really wanted to cross that barrier from the first trimester to the second trimester, so as soon as I was free and that second trimester started, I let my colleagues know.”
“The way it’s unfolding this season is actually really funny. Some people may have had their doubts, but for the most part, I don’t think they had a clue. It’s going to be fun for viewers to watch. I know it’s going to be really special,” she continues.
With much joy comes navigating the difficulties of Silas’ current schedule in Poland.
“Luckily, we can communicate via WhatsApp every now and then when he has the chance. We make the most of every moment we can, especially with the time difference. It’s hard, but I’m grateful to have a lot of amazing women around me.”
Some of those women include co-stars Jordan Emanuel and Bria Fleming, as well as her mom and Silas’ family, who supported her during a “really smooth pregnancy.”
“His family is very supportive. My family is so excited,” she gushes. “I’ve got a lot going on these days, which is great.”
Silas and Jasmine bond over plans for their little boy, with the mom-to-be admitting, “We’ve been picking out names for all of our kids for a while now.”
“It’s exciting. I’m excited to join a group of boys and moms,” she says. “Outside of the (salty, spicy food) cravings and pilates getting a little harder to do, it’s been really wonderful. I think my son is doing really well.”

After a tumultuous first year of marriage, Jasmine is looking forward to continuing the “good stride” her little family has been enjoying.
“Right after we celebrated our one year wedding anniversary, we found out shortly after he was deployed. And right after we found out, we found out we were expecting,” she notes.
“The first year was not the easiest, it was very complex and pulled us in so many different directions. So to be at this point now feels like a blessing, like a reward for staying committed to our family,” she shares. “It’s exciting and I know it’s hard for him, being so far away from me. He’s always worried if I’m okay, if I’m eating enough, if I have everything I need, and I have to reassure him that I’m okay. I have an amazing doula, an amazing hospital in to which I will give birth, and I hold it here while he holds it for the earth there.”
For the two, who have long dreamed of being parents, Jasmine says she and Silas are “looking forward to learning from each other in this new way.”
“I think Silas is going to be a phenomenal role model and father and he’s just going to have fun times at home. What I’m most looking forward to is being able to come home to the family we’re building, the little moments like movie nights, forts, trips, weird things that the children are working. I look forward to it and certainly to all holidays.”
For this year’s holidays, Jasmine is looking forward to a “super special” time hosting her family for the first time.
“I begged and begged them to come to my home,” she laughs. “I think they really just want to be with me and support me at this time. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. It’s two weeks before my birthday and it’s going to be really special to have everyone – my grandmother and my mother, my sister, my nephew and Silas mom and dad — come to us. We love to laugh, we love to have a good time, and we love to match our pajamas. So it’s going to be special to document this moment before the baby actually arrives.”
Once the baby arrives, Jasmine looks forward to channeling her creative talents as a screenwriter.
“It’s really special to approach motherhood knowing all the phenomenal youth and child-centered stories out there. I’m looking forward to launching my career, and my biggest hope is to continue to collaborate with the people I want to work with, telling the stories I want to tell from outside Summer Home: Martha’s Vineyardso I’m looking forward to balancing that with motherhood.”
