Carl Radke wants to share his side of the breakup.
The Summer house The 38-year-old star broke off his engagement to co-star Lindsay Hubbard this summer and told PEOPLE at BravoCon in Las Vegas on Friday, “I strongly don’t believe she was blindsided by us having those conversations.”
In a since-deleted Instagram post dated Sept. 14, the 37-year-old PR professional wrote that she was “having a hard time making sense of it all – no answers or conclusions as to why.”
Radke claimed that when viewers see Summer house season 8, they will “accept and see things from the beginning” that were problems in his relationship with Hubbard.

“We had a very difficult summer and I think people will see that,” Radke said. “But it just shows the seriousness of the situation when I really felt deep down that I needed to talk to her about where we were in our relationship and moving forward with the wedding.”
The reality star has denied rumors that he called production to film the break-up ahead of their November wedding.
“I didn’t call the production to set her up,” said Radke. “I don’t decide what will be filmed about Summer house. I really don’t. I only respond to what is asked.”

Radke said the split was “incredibly emotionally difficult for both of us” and added that, “if there’s a way to make it better in some way, I would.”
The Syracuse University student had a harder time dealing with the break from Hubbard than his brother’s death in 2020.
“This was harder than my brother’s death, I’m not even kidding,” Radke said. “It was very, very painful and emotional.”

It took Radke the last few months, which he called “very challenging and difficult,” to “process and heal.”
“I had to take some space and be quiet,” he continued. “This is the first time I’ve spoken in two months because I wanted to show respect because it’s painful for both of us. There is still some closure and things that I feel will have to be figured out at some point. But I’m just one day at a time. I’m just trying to take care of myself.”
Radke showed up at BravoCon hoping to give it his all.
“I’m holding on here. Part of me is like, so proud to be here, part of the Bravo family,” he said. “I was at Summer house for eight seasons. I love our show, I love the network. I love our fans and I just wanted to come here and present our show to the best of my ability and with my head held high.”

During Friday Summer house panel with his colleagues, Radke announced that he would be returning to work with Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula at Loverboy to help launch the soft drink and produce the film.
“Focusing on my career is definitely a good way to heal and move forward,” Radke said.
Radke told PEOPLE that he remained composed after the difficult breakup.
“I didn’t take a drink,” he said. “I didn’t pick up cocaine and those are the things I have a big problem with. I’m really proud that I was able to stay strong.”

Radke said that after breaking up with Hubbard, he checked into the hotel room and refused a bottle of wine offered to him by one of the hotel employees who “saw how messy I was.”
“That was the strength I had in that moment to just say, ‘No, I can’t,'” Radke said. “I’m proud of that. These are the times when your mental health is really hard [and] sobriety. I just try to move forward with respect and focus on myself and try to live a happy life.”
