Summer Wells, a six-year-old child from Tennessee, disappeared more than a year ago from her family’s rural home. Don Wells, her father, sent a letter from prison to “the person or individuals responsible” for his daughter’s abduction. Don Wells was caught on a separate DUI after losing his daughter and is in jail. He was on probation at the time. He said in a message posted on the family’s Find Summer Wells website,
“Not only did you break Summer’s heart and steal her away from her mother and father, who adore her, but you also ruined her educational prospects, ruining her life.”
Devastated father Summer Wells writes heartbreaking words
According to reports, Bly told authorities that her daughter returned to their Rogersville, Tennessee, home on Ben Hill Road on June 15, 2021, after helping her grandmother plant flowers. The girl’s parents said they believe someone broke into their 11-acre property, lured her outside and then kidnapped her.
Wells and his wife, Candus Bly, took their three sons from the residence when they were unable to locate Summer Wells last July. According to the letter, Wells and Bly were fired after her abduction and had trouble finding new jobs.
In addition, the letter stated,
“You see, the public holds us accountable,” he wrote. “I’m not sure if we’ll ever find work again.” Nobody wants to hire my wife, and I have been fired from my job for 13 years. We could lose everything in the end. “When you kidnapped our daughter, you took our life.”
Today marks one year since Summer Wells went missing, triggering the sequel #TNAMBERWarning.

The family’s media manager revealed on YouTube that the next letter to Summer Wells will most likely be made public soon. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the investigation is still ongoing, but declined to release any other details. Summer was about six feet tall and six pounds when she was last seen. She was wearing a pink blouse, gray jeans and may have been barefoot when she disappeared. On June 15 and 16, the driver of a red pickup truck was seen along Ben Hill Road in Rogersville. It has full size ladder racks and white bins in the bed.
Summer’s disappearance is still under investigation, with detectives looking into all possibilities. Investigators said they executed various search warrants and devoted thousands of man hours to the investigation over the past year. The Amber Alert is still active. Furthermore, Rose Marie Bly, Bly’s sister, disappeared in Wisconsin in 2009 in an unsolved case, and both of Summer’s parents have a history of involvement in crime.
