Sundar Pichai is a business executive who served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google. After joining Google in 2004, Pichai served as the company’s CEO in 2015 and served as CEO of parent company Alphabet Inc.; he succeeded Larry Page and Sergey Brin on December 3, 2019. CEO of Google.

Pichai was born on July 12, 1972 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India (Age as of 2024: 52). Since childhood, he has been an excellent student. His father, Regunatha Pichai, is an electrical engineer at GEC (British Conglomerate), and his mother, Lakshmi, is a stenographer. He grew up in a two-bedroom apartment in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 1993.

Pichai completed his high school education at Jawahar Vidyalaya, a CBSE school in Chennai, and completed his 12th grade at Vana Vani School, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and a degree in metallurgical engineering. For higher education, he attended Stanford University in California and completed a master’s degree in materials science and engineering. Pichai earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar (one of the most talented students) and a Palmer Scholar. After graduation, he worked at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company. Pichai joined Google in 2004 to lead product management; he played an important role in the development of Google’s web browser Chrome and the Android mobile operating system.

Pichai has also been instrumental in other Google search products, such as the Google Toolbar, Google Pack, Desktop Search, Gadgets, Firefox extensions, Google Gears, applications such as Gmail and Google Maps, and Mac products. From April 2011 to July 2013, Pichai served as a director of Jive Software. In 2014, he was a strong contender for Microsoft CEO. However, Satya Nadella later assumed the position. On August 10, 2015, he was selected as the next CEO of Google and took office as CEO of Google on October 24, 2015.

- The November 2015 floods in Chennai were almost tragic for Pichai’s grandmother, who was trapped in a building for four days without food, water or mobile phone connectivity. As water levels rose, his grandmother had to move to the second floor of the building.
- Pichai is an avid fan of FC Barcelona and attends every match of the club.
- His hobbies are reading, watching and playing football, cricket, sketching, chess etc.
- Speaking at a virtual graduation ceremony held during the COVID-19 pandemic on June 8, 2020, he revealed that when Pichai left India to study at Stanford University, his father spent a year’s salary on Air tickets to the United States. He said,
My father spent the equivalent of a year’s salary on buying me a plane ticket to the United States so that I could attend Stanford University. This is my first time flying. ”
- In May 2023, Tamil actor and producer C. Manikandan bought Pichai’s home in Chennai, where Pichai grew up and lived there until he was 20 years old. Pichai’s father reportedly broke down while handing over documents for his house in Ashok Nagar residential area in Chennai.
