Only after the health scare at the beginning of this year, which caused her to make a series of changes, after she was taken to the hospital and examined by a doctor.

Susanna, 53, said: “Losing my voice earlier this year was a bit of a scare. Everyone squeaks a little from time to time, but I couldn’t get any noise out of my vocal cords, and that’s never happened before.

“Very quickly I went to a specialist who stuck a camera in my throat, for which I needed a nurse to hold my hand because it was quite intrusive.

“The specialist said that I might have a virus that I didn’t know I had. Unless we’re properly sick, we all keep working, don’t we?

“I don’t do anything to strengthen my immunity, and I should.

“The doctor was quite surprised that I don’t drink more water and that I drink a lot of coffee, so I tried to cut back a bit.

“One morning we agreed that I drank eight coffees. But I don’t drink the whole cup – I drink a few sips. But now I’m trying to switch it up with ginger tea.”

Susanna also revealed that she has continued to reduce her alcohol consumption and said that after losing weight this summer, she decided to keep it up.

Speaking in the February issue of Woman&Home, Susanna explained: “I don’t know how much weight I’ve lost, but I feel a bit better.

“Eamonn Holmes once said that when you’re on breakfast TV, it feels like you’re eating breakfast six times a day.

“You’re awake a lot longer, you can eat more, and because you’re really tired in the afternoon—I’m not playing the violin for myself here, it’s just the facts—afternoon snacks can be high in carbs.

“In the summer, when I wasn’t presenting Good Morning Britain, I said to myself, ‘You’re not getting up at 3.45am, so you might as well cut down on your intake’.

“As a result, I lost some of the weight I was holding on to. Since returning to work, I’ve had to try not to fall back into the same habits.

“Basically, it’s about not snacking. I’m trying, trying, trying not.”

The February issue of Woman&Home is on sale from Thursday, January 4.
