John Rockefeller was born on July 8, 1839 in Richford, New York, but his family was forced to move to Cleveland, Ohio when he was only 14 years old. He had a great business mind in his teenage years, having started a number of small businesses before joining Hewitt & Tuttle as an assistant bookkeeper at the age of 16.

When he was only 20 years old, John had come a long way in his business. He started working as a commission merchant of meat, hay, grains and other products. In the first year, the company he founded made a profit of 450 thousand dollars.

The Standard Oil Company now controls every aspect of the oil industry and has no competition.

Within a decade, John Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company became America’s first monopoly, and they began expanding their operations around the world. After retiring from one of the world’s largest corporations, John was involved in various charitable activities.
