Sushila Charak belongs to the Dogra Rajput family of Maharashtra. On November 18, 1964, she married screenwriter and actor Salim Khan.
The two have three sons, Arbaaz Khan (director, producer, writer and actor), Salman Khan (actor) and Sahail Khan ) (director, producer, writer and actor), and a daughter named Alvira Khan Agnihotri (film producer and fashion designer).

- Sushila met Salim Khan in 1964, about 5-6 years before getting married. The two dated for five years before getting married.
- Sushila changed her name to Salma Khan after her marriage.
- In 1981, Salim married Helen but did not divorce Susila. By then Sushila and Salim were parents of four children.
- After Salim married Helen, their family began to fall apart. Susila couldn’t bear to be deceived, but she had no choice but to live with Helen under the same roof. The children sided with Susila, but no one was ready to accept Helen.
- Salim doesn’t want to choose between his two wives, so he tries to tell his family that Helen is not a “homewrecker.” Soon, his family realized this too, and the children began to think of Helen as their “mother.”
- Despite having the same husband, Sushila and Helen were good friends.
