He was first spotted by veteran cricket coach Suresh Batra, who spoke to former Delhi cricketer Kartar Nath about his bowling skills, especially the googles. Nath later invited him for a trial, after which he was selected for Dena Bank in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) league. Ness said of this in an interview,
He throws the lob really well and from the first look, we knew this guy had huge potential. Therefore, we invited him to join the Dana Bank team and gave him a stipend. “
Ness also tried to get him selected for the U-19 team; however, he failed. He then played for DDCA’s Madras club. During the 2021-22 season, Nath approached Gursharan Singh, a former India player and then member of the Delhi Cricket Advisory Committee, to take a look at his bowling. Singh was impressed with Sharma’s bowling skills and after the intervention of DDCA president Rohan Jaitley (Arun Jaitley’s son), Sharma was eventually selected for the Delhi Under-25 national team and helped Sharma Ma solved the problem with paperwork. Singer spoke about this in an interview, saying:
Katta told me about this boy and I was impressed by his bowling. He faced some issues with paperwork but DDCA president Rohan Jaitley ensured that the matter was sorted out and the selectors finally selected him for the U-25 team. “
Indian Premier League (IPL)
Suyash Sharma was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a base price of Rs 20 lakh in the 2022 auction of the IPL season 2022. He was invited for trials at the KKR Academy in Mumbai and KKR scouts including Abhishek Nayar were impressed with his skills. Former Delhi Under-25 coach and India bowler Pankaj Singh said Suyash bowls at a fast pace which makes it difficult for batsmen to predict his delivery. He said,
Before the auction, Abhishek (Nayyar) called me to inquire about Suyash and a few other young men. And, I remember we were talking about how great he was and how he could be the wow factor for any team. His uniqueness is that he can bowl leg-spin and googly at great pace. It is difficult for the batsman to select his ball. “
KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit said that Suyash has fighting spirit and performed well in KKR’s trial matches. He said,
We saw him at tryouts. He is very fast in the air. It’s hard to pick him when he’s away from the batter and the batter. He showed great attitude and fighting spirit throughout training camp. “
In his first IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 6 April 2023, he performed brilliantly, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs in the 4-over quota, including Dinesh· The wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma helped KKR win the match.

KKR captain Nitish Rana mentioned Suyash’s name in the post-match press conference and said that he is a confident player and has made good use of the opportunities he has been given. He said,
Suyash is a confident young man who has faith in himself. He took advantage of his opportunity and it’s great to see him play the way he does. “

- His coach Kartar Nath said in an interview that his mother called Nath during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 and told him that Suyash would not play cricket again due to financial constraints ; however, Ness convinced her to let Suyash continue. Suyash’s elder brother also supported Suyash in pursuing his dream of achieving great things in cricket. Ness said,
Things were not going well for Suyash at that time and one day his mother called me and told me that he was quitting cricket. I told her to give him some time and be patient. It was during COVID and I asked her to allow him to play a little longer. She listened to me. His brother is very supportive. He also participated in some local cricket matches so despite the challenges, he ensured that Suyash continued his game”
