Sydney Sweeney Says She and Anyone But You Costar Glen Powell Are ‘Dreaming Up’ Ideas for Sequel (Exclusive)

Sydney Sweeney is rooting for an Anyone but you 2!

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE about her partnership with Bai, the 26-year-old actress talks about her hopes for the 2023 romantic comedy sequel.

“We come up with a bunch of different ideas,” Sweeney says of himself and actor Glen Powell.

“We still haven’t solidified what we want to do, but we’re just coming up with a bunch of different things and seeing what clicks best,” she adds.

Anyone but you which hits theaters in December, follows former college enemies who reunite years later at a destination wedding, where they pretend to be a couple and end up falling in love.

Along with Sweeney and Powell (35), the film also stars Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, Alexandra Shipp, Michelle Hurd, Bryan Brown, Darren Barnet and Hadley Robinson.

The project was directed by Will Gluck, the mastermind of the romantic comedy genre, which he previously made Friends with benefits starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis Easy starring Emma Stone and Penn Badgley.

During the performance at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last month, Sweeney talked about a potential sequel Anyone but you.

Highlighting the film’s box office success, which has grossed more than $200 million worldwide, the star told host Jimmy Fallon that there’s “maybe, like, a big 9 chance” to make the next movie.

“Oh really? That’s what I’m talking about! I can’t wait to see it,” Fallon, 49, replied, before Sweeney added, “I’m so thankful that everybody loves him.”

Powell, meanwhile, has also expressed interest in teaming up with Sweeney again, saying Diversity on the 2024 SAG Awards red carpet that he would love to work with again.

“When you find someone you really enjoy being with, Sydney is so easy to work with and so much fun. We’re definitely trying to find the next thing. Please send us any scripts you have,” Powell told the outlet. “You know that’s what we’re here for.”

“It was really wonderful to read a lot. Sydney, by the way, reads everything and in record time,” he added. “She’s the fastest reader I’ve ever met. It takes me a little longer, but we read everything and just try to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something the audience will respond to.”
