Tamar Braxton Ends Engagement to Queens Court Finalist Jeremy ‘JR’ Robinson

Tamar Braxton and her Queen’s Court finalist, Jeremy “JR” Robinson, broke off their engagement.

On Monday, Robinson revealed on social media that he and Braxton Family Values star, 46, are no longer together after getting engaged in the finale of the first season of the Peacock reality series, which aired in March.

“So many questions. So many assumptions. I want to answer everything I can respectfully,” he wrote in a statement on his Instagram Story. “Yes, Tamar and I are no longer together. I ended the relationship to focus on getting back to positive energy and being a better person.”

The lawyer declined to reveal details of the split, saying: “What happened and why – that’s our private place.”

“No. I never cheated. No. I wasn’t there when she was at her mother’s house when her car was broken into,” he added, referring to an incident earlier this month in which the singer claimed she was robbed at home.

“No, I never cared about fame. Who reveals their most embarrassing moments in life in order to achieve fame. The truth is that I was in an incredible place financially and mentally. I refused Queens [Court] several times before I gave in. I ended up falling in love and it didn’t end the way I wanted.”

He concluded his message by sharing that he hoped for “healing” after the split, adding, “Tamar and I will always be friends and family for life. Thank you for respecting our privacy.”

A source later told PEOPLE that the split was Braxton’s decision. “There was a lot of drama, but hopefully the nail isn’t all the way in the coffin for them. She needs time,” the source said. “The ball is in her court. She’s in good shape mentally and has a great village around her to support her through this.”

Braxton’s rep did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Braxton and Robinson got engaged in the finale of the first season of The Peacocks Queens Courtwhich also saw Evelyn Lozada and Nivea finding their perfect match.

“I knew I was different from my siblings,” she told Robinson on the show. “I was praying that someone would understand me and not look at me and my flaws and just accept me the way I am. And then I met you. And then I saw everything I had ever prayed for as a child.”

Braxton’s engagement surprised even her sister Toni.

“She called me and said, ‘Toni, I’m engaged!'” Toni continued Sherri in May before sharing her first reaction. “‘To whom?! Being what?! Doing what?! You’re engaged to what?” And she said, ‘No, I have a guy, you’re going to love him!'”

Toni continued, “JR is her guy. And I said, ‘Can I see a picture?’ And she said, ‘No, I’m going to surprise you.'”

Braxton shares son Logan with ex-husband Vincent Herbert, while Robinson has five children from previous relationships. Revealing how her child felt about her dating at the time, Braxton said, “I think ultimately our kids want to see us happy.”

“I definitely want to have a husband and hopefully he’ll have kids so we can have a blended family,” she continued. – I think he is also attracted to it.
