Tanmay Bhat made his debut as a writer in 2007 on UTV Bindass’ show “Hass Ley India”. This youth-oriented show is a stand-up comedy show that showcases celebrity interviews. In 2008, Tanmay Bhat wrote for “MTV Wassup – Voice Of Youngistaan”. The video host of the show is famous actor Ayushmann Khurrana. After the closure of All India Bakchod (AIB), Tanmay Bhat started creating content on his YouTube channel and started live streaming the game of PUBG: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with the participation of different YouTube users. In 2020, Tanmay also created “Honestly by Tanmay Bhat,” a podcast where he hosts discussions on topics as diverse as neuroscience, stock markets, taxes, and mutual funds. In 2020, Netflix India partnered with Tanmay Bhat to launch a series in which the comedian reacts to the launch of new movies and TV shows. Investigation into Tanmay Bhat
In May 2016, the Mumbai police chief ordered an investigation into comedian Tanmay Bhat after his stand-up video appeared on Facebook. The video shows a fictional conversation between Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar discussing whether Virat Kohli is better than Sachin Tendulkar. The video did not go down well with the star’s fans and viewers and a complaint was lodged by BJP leader Ashish Shelar accusing Tanmay Bhat of mocking and insulting Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar. The video was later removed from Facebook.
FIR against Tanmay Bhat
In 2017, an FIR was filed against AIB co-founder Tanmay Bhat after AIB’s social media account uploaded and circulated inappropriate images of Narendra Modi wearing a dog filter. The photo resembles that of Narendra Modi, holding a phone in his hand and using a dog filter on Snapchat. Many of Narendra Modi’s followers were offended and even debated the idea of the Congress party’s involvement.

In 2015, activist Santosh Daundkar registered an FIR against 14 people, including Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Dee Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and the entire cast of All India Bakchod. Complaints were filed due to the use of vulgar and obscene language at an event.

In 2018, Tanmay Bhat was accused of remaining silent despite knowing about sexual harassment at his company, All India Bakchod. Company employee Mahima Kukreja has accused comedian Utsav Chakraborty of sending her inappropriate text messages and pictures. After knowing all this, Tanmay Bhat chose to ignore the matter and not say anything, which caused huge hatred online, leading to his removal as AIB CEO. Amazon India has removed Tanmay Bhat from the judging panel of Comicstaan Season 2 due to this allegation.

In 2023, Kotak Mahindra Bank withdrew its 811 advertising campaign titled ‘#SamayKoSahiKaamPeLagao’ launched by Tanmay Bhat and Samay Raina. The campaign sparked controversy on social media when members of the public began posting screenshots of old tweets by Tanmay Bhat, in which he made fun of the Hindu god Ganesha. The bank apologized and issued a statement clarifying its partnership with Tanmay Bhat.
