While in college, she was a member of the “Columbia University Lions”, which is made up of Columbia University’s all-sport teams, and she was a member of the women’s squash team with Jacques Swanepoel coach. As a sophomore, she made history in the women’s squash program, becoming the first player to earn All-American honors and leading the Lions to a first-place finish this season. She also made history by becoming just the second player in her program to earn All-Ivy honors. During her junior year, she was one of two Lions to earn first-place honors at Yale and first-place honors at Cornell. She competed in the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) tournament, led the team as captain, and was recognized as the team’s most valuable player. In her senior year, she helped the team defeat Cornell University in the CSA team championship and won her second consecutive Most Valuable Player Award.

In 2013, she represented the Independent Olympians; Indian athletes competed under the Olympic flag at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China due to the suspension of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of India. The Indian team consisting of Adya Advani, Harshit Kaur Jawanda and Tanvi Khanna won the bronze medal at the 2013 Asian Youth Games. In 2018, she became a member of the Indian women’s national squash team; other members of the team include Joshna Chinappa, Sunayna Kuruvilla and Dipika Pallikal. The team won a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In 2019, she participated in the Asian Women’s Squash Individual Championship, but lost to Joshina Chinapa in the quarterfinals. Tanvi won the women’s singles gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games in Lalitpur, Nepal. She is also a member of the Indian women’s national squash team; Sunayna Kuruvilla, Sanya Vats and Urwashi Joshiikal are the other members of the team. The team won a gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal.
In August 2021, Tanvi won her first PSA at the second edition of the HCL SRFI India Tour Squash Championship, defeating Sunana Kuruvilla in five thrilling games. (Professional Squash Association) Tour Champion.
In August 2023, she defeated Malaysian player Chen Yiwen in the final of the Coffs Harbor Open on the north coast of Costa Rica and won the championship. It proved to be a remarkable victory for Tanvi as she defeated several top seeds like Joshna Chinappa on her way to the top. In September 2023, at the age of 29, she replaced Joshna Chinappa as India’s number one squash player, and at the same time, her world ranking reached 69th according to the PSA World Ranking. In an interview, while talking about her promotion to the No. 1 position in India, she said:
My world ranking shot up from 96 to 69 in three weeks and I feel like these events really helped me feel more confident about playing the rest of the season. I haven’t played against Joshna in a few years and it was great to beat her at the Costa Norte Open – it’s something I’ve been working on for a while. The next goal is to break into the top 50 in the world. “
In 2023, she became a member of the Indian women’s national squash team; other members of the team include Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh and Dipika Pallikal. The team won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

- She has two pet dogs, Keenu and Lea.
- She meditates for 20 minutes every day. According to her, this has helped her to better reflect and take control of her mental health.
- She started playing squash at the age of 9 and soon entered and won a tournament in Delhi. This experience prompted her to take up professional squash and focus on the sport.
- In 2022, she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and had to take a break from squash for nearly a year, which caused her world ranking to fall below 400 for the first time in more than seven years.
