Tara VanDerveer is a former American basketball player and coach. Tara VanDerveer is the head coach of the Stanford University women’s basketball team. She is also known for leading the US women’s basketball team to Olympic gold. She is also a five-time national coach of the year and was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.

As for her career, she is the head coach of the American basketball team. She was also the head coach of USA Basketball for eight years, from the 1986 Olympics to the 1996 Games. She led the United States to four gold medals, one bronze medal and an 88-8 overall record. In 1990, she led the USA team to a 2-3 record against Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
She also led the USA to a 6-1 record and a gold medal at the COPABA World Cup qualifying event in 1993. The gold medal qualified the United States for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and she returned to lead the team that year.
She was the head coach of the legendary 1995-1996 USA Women’s National Team, which went 52-0 in ten months and traveled more than 100,000 miles competing in seven countries. Shooting from Outside, a book about the 1995-96 campaign, was published in September 1997.
She has been the head coach at Stanford University since 1985. She has helped teams reach 13 NCAA Final Fours in 32 NCAA Tournament appearances and has led teams to 23 Pacific-12 Conference regular-season appearances and 13 Pac-12 Tournament appearances. Through 2019, Stanford has won two NCAA Championships and appeared in 12 Final Fours.
Tara’s 900–192 record at Stanford makes her just the fifth Division I coach in history to win 900 games in a single season. She led the Cardinal to their third NCAA Championship with a 54-53 victory over the Pac-12 rival Arizona Wildcats in April 2021. They won the tournament for the first time in 29 years.
