Tarun Sagar, also known as Muni Tarun Sagar, Shri Pawan Kumar Jain and Jayne Mu Jain Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj was born on June 26, 1967 (51 years old) in Guhanchi village, Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, India. He was a Jain monk from Digambara. Muni Tarun Sagar, who often attracts media attention, has always expressed his views on prevailing social practices and contemporary socio-political issues through his Kadve Pravachan, better known as Bitter Discourses. His views were also published in some major national newspapers and his discussions were compiled in a book called Kadve Pravachan. Tarun Sagar is also often invited by the state government to address rallies on different occasions. This Jain monk has a huge fan following from all over the world and not just from the Jain commune.

Muni Tarun Sagar was born in Madhya Pradesh, India, to Pratap Chandra Jain and Shanti Bai Jain. He was named Pawan Kumar Jain at birth. He never married.
Because of his bitter words, he is often called a revolutionary saint.

According to some sources, on March 8, 1981, at the age of 13, he left home and received education in Chhattisgarh and became a Kshullak. On July 20, 1988, at the age of 20, he became a Digambara monk in Bagidora, Rajasthan. His predecessor was Acharya Pushpdant Sagar.
He became very popular with a show called Mahavira Vani. Mahavira Vani is initiated by GTV. He was always a preacher of peace and non-violence. He was so influenced by Mahatma Gandhi that he organized the ‘1000 Gandhis’ program on October 2, 2012, along with international trainer, author and motivational author Dr. Ujjwal Patni. The 100 Gandhi Project has also been recognized by Guinness World Records as the only event in the world where 891 people dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi.
Opinion
Although Muni Tarun Sagar is a famous saint of Diganbala, he openly expressed his concerns about different problems of the world and contemporary socio-economic and political affairs. While we can say that Tarun Sagar is not very active politically, we can never completely ignore the fact that he is interested in the political sphere. He was also invited by the Vidhan Sabhas to address rallies. The Delhi and Haryana Congress invited Mouni Tarun Sagar to express his views.
Tarun Sagar often attracts media attention for his unconventional views on issues such as love jihad, triple talaq, terrorism and Muslims, women having abortions, etc.
He also joined the ranks of the Svetambara monks during his Chaturmas in Jaipur, India. Tarun Sagar even inspired Dharma Saansad, and Acharyas of Svetambara Terapanth, Sthanakavasi and Murtipujaka sects also participated in the event.

- He spoke openly about terrorism in India. He had said that there were not many terrorists in Pakistan compared to the number of traitors in India. He further said that many Indian Muslims do not even want to live in his country and they should be sent to Pakistan, while Hindus living in Pakistan should return to India if they no longer want to live there.
- He termed love jihad as a Muslim conspiracy to lure innocent Hindu girls to Islam in the name of false love. Mouni Tarun Sagar even said that if this conspiracy is not stopped, India will become the second Pakistan.
- Maharaj Tarun Sagar spoke openly about reservation policy. He said reservation should be based on ability and character.
- He often compared Buddhism to a husband and politics to a wife. Tarun Sagar participated in many political activities. He said it was the husband’s duty to protect his wife and it was the wife’s duty to obey her husband.
- Noted musician Vishal Dadlani had tweeted against the spiritual leader. At that time, Dadlani was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Even party president Arvind Kejriwal regretted the incident. Finally, Vishal Dadlani had to apologize to Tarun Sagar.
- Tarun Sagar has publicly called India’s self-styled godmen nothing more than hypocrites who only want to accumulate wealth. He said that one-third of India’s self-proclaimed gods are liars whose only purpose is to divide the country. He also accused ordinary people of following these self-proclaimed gods.
- Speaking on Triple Talaq, he said those who advocate for Muslim women’s rights do so only to gain political publicity from the issue. These people do not respect the rights of Muslim women.

Respected spiritual leader Maharaj Tarun Sagar passed away in Delhi, India, at around 3 a.m. on September 1, 2018, after a long illness. He is 51 years old. He was already suffering from jaundice and had stopped taking medication for the past few days.
He went to Santhara or Sallekhana, a Jain temple in Ladpura. Santhara is the Jain ritual of fasting until death.
