Taylor Lautner opens up about the girl who became Taylor Swift’s friend.
On Alex Cooper’s podcast Call her dad along with his wife Taylor Dome, the 31-year-old actor began the topic of “rekindling” his friendship with the pop star years after the breakup.
“I think when you respect someone for who they are, like in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive and continue that love in a different way,” he said. Twilight star, who dated Swift in the fall of 2009.

“We remained friends, we would see each other here and there. But then we lost touch and didn’t talk for a while,” Lautner continued, noting that the two “were so young” at the time. “But I’ve always had the deepest respect for who she is as a person first and foremost.”
That has changed recently, he said. “Honestly, I’d say one of the biggest things that’s happened in my life over the last year has been the rekindling of our friendship.”
He added that Swift, 34, “above all that she is, she’s just a wonderful person. And it’s pretty nice to have him in your life.”
As for exactly what happened at the end of Lautner and Swift’s romance, the actor confirmed that Swift was the one who ended things. “Yes, absolutely,” he said after some uncertainty. “I remember exactly what happened. But no, yes, it is.”

Dome, a registered nurse and longtime fan of Swift’s music, attended the pop star’s Eras Tour concert in Kansas City, Missouri, in July with Lautner as her companion. He joined the Grammy winner on stage to premiere the music video in which he appears for her song “I Can See You.”
“He was a very positive force in my life when I was creating Speak now album, and I want to say that he did all the tricks that you saw in that music video,” Swift said as she introduced her ex to the audience. “He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very nice because we all share the same name.”
