Taylor Swift Got in Shape for Her Eras Tour by Running on the Treadmill Every Day — While Singing Her Entire Set List

Taylor Swift reveals how she got in shape for the Eras Tour.

In an interview with Time in honor of Swift being named the publication’s Person of the Year, the singer-songwriter, 33, explained that she began training for her concert six months before the March premiere at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

“I knew this tour was harder than anything I’d ever done before,” Swift said Time. “Finally, for the first time, I prepared properly physically.”

Elaborating further, Swift said that part of her training involved running on a treadmill every day while singing an extensive set list. “Fast for fast songs, and jogging or fast walking for slow songs,” she said. After running, she would also strength train at her Dogpound gym and take dance classes.

She added: “I wanted to get it in my bones. I wanted to be so practiced that I could be funny with the fans without losing my train of thought. Learning choreography is not my strong point.”

Swift also said she stopped drinking alcohol while preparing for her three-hour-and-15-minute show. The only night she drank before the start of her tour was during the Grammy Awards. “I gave myself a fun night because of it,” she said. Then she went back to abstinence.

“Doing that show with a hangover,” she continued, “I don’t want to know that world.”

“I know I don’t drink on tour. I know I work out between shows. I know I am maintaining my strength and endurance. I know I’m going on that stage whether I’m sick, injured, heartbroken, uncomfortable or stressed,” she said. “It is now part of my identity as a human being. If someone buys a ticket for my show, I will play it unless there is some force majeure.”

After the Eras tour kicked off in March, Swift will perform three consecutive shows in each city. She shared with the magazine that on her days off – which she called her “dead days” – she would do nothing but get out of bed to get food.

She said: “It’s a dream scenario. I can barely speak because I’ve been singing for three performances in a row. Every time I take a step, my legs go crunch, crunch, crunch from dancing in heels. But it’s the most fulfilling I’ve ever felt.”
